Dear Friends + Families of Mae House,
What an A-MAE-ZING year this has been for Mae House. Our Members continue to flourish beyond any of our wildest dreams. Each of the girls has shown wonderful strides in their social and developmental skills through their many activities and programs. Our Assistants continue to develop their comaraderie as a team of women that service the Mae House Members. Everything that they do is for the betterment of Mae House and its Members, and the effort and thoughtfulness shine through the happiness that the Members feel when they are at home.
The current Mae House was built in 1950 and has sheltered our Mae House family for the last 8 years. We talked about opening a second Mae House but decided against it, putting all efforts and resources to continue to make Mae House the “best in the west.” So, we met with the Regional Center (RCOC) leadership and aligned on expanding from four to six Members, which is the maximum capacity for an Adult Residential Facility (ARF). We first explored adding onto the current three-bedroom, one-bath home, but after a few meetings with our architect, we decided it was best to start over and do a whole new build. Our new home will be a one-story cottage-style home and will feature 6 bedrooms and 2 ½ baths, a kitchen any chef would love, a welcoming living room, a cozy dining room, and a lively game room. A full front porch and generous yard will anchor gatherings and everyday connection. An ADU above the garage will support staffing and future program needs. Every inch is designed for durability, belonging, and delight for decades to come.
Many of our subcontractors and consultants are offering their services as a donation to Mae House or have discounted their rates. We are incredibly grateful. Thus far, we have received $478,000 in pledged commitments. With a Construction Budget of $2,700,000 we are excited about the involvement of so many of us in order to reach our goal. Thank you in advance for your consideration of a donation to this very special project. Please visit www.maehouse.org/donate-now.
Many thanks to our architect, Tom Rakestraw, for his thoughtfulness and for bringing his expertise in planning this home to be the most warm and welcoming home that Mae House can be for its Members.
We have contracted with Andrew Bigalke and his team from AB Custom Build to lead construction.
Jess Slater Piscetta of Studio J is doing architectural consultation and her beautiful designs for the home.
Everything has really fallen into place during this transitional time. We found a wonderful rental home and to make the adjustment as good of an experience as it could be, we visited the home several times for neighborhood walks and to have lunch with some pool time, which the girls absolutely loved. The rental is more spacious and very comfortable. The girls spent a long weekend with their families while our wonderful Assistants did a stellar job unpacking and preparing the rental house for the Members’ return. Everyone is enjoying the new adventure of the rental home! Monsignor Doug Cook was kind enough to give the home and those in it a special blessing.
We are privileged to receive a yummy lunch every Saturday from A Market thanks to Jordan Otterbein.
John and Katherine from The Pizza Bakery continue to gift the girls with their delicious pizza or lasagna every other Friday. John says it’s his favorite delivery of the week!
We are so excited about building a new home for Mae House, and the pre-construction process thus far, has 2025 IN REVIEW proven to be extremely productive. We feel the support of our Mae House family during this time, and will continue to rely on you all for your thougthful donations, prayers, and involvement. We will have lots of furniture, appliances, rugs, plumbing + light fixtures, and homeware to purchase. If you’d like to help us cross the finish line through donations, in-kind services, or introductions, we would be grateful.
Watch for email updates on the new build, including groundbreaking, demo day, framing…and some fun and exciting events along the way!
Also, keep an eye out for us on Stu News!
Blessings! Love, Liz
